Forney man pleads guilty to stealing and destroying postal truck in Dallas Caleb Downs
A Forney man pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing and destroying a postal truck last winter, dragging a Dallas postman who tried to prevent the theft.
Jason Lee Smallwood, 34, was charged with one count of theft of government property, one count of damaging government property and one count of obstruction of correspondence. He now faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Last December, Smallwood and three other people in a Chevy Suburban pulled into a Valero gas station on South Beltline Road. Minutes later, a USPS truck stopped at an adjacent gas pump.
According to security camera footage, Smallwood got out of the Suburban and climbed into the postal truck while the postman was paying at the pump.
