Ringleader of robbers who manhandled elderly AT&T customer gets 17 years in prison Matt Peterson
Staff writer Elvia Limón reports:
The ringleader of a group of wireless store robbers was sentenced Monday to just over 17 years in prison for a Grand Prairie holdup where an 81-year-old victim was manhandled.
Luther Elder, 30, pleaded guilty to the crime and was sentenced to 210 months in prison and ordered to pay $13,854 in restitution after robbing a Grand Prairie AT&T store on Jan. 23, 2015, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Two other Dallas men and a woman — Anthony Poe, 22; Brandon Walker, 29; and Chambrezia Johnson, 26 — have also pleaded guilty in the robbery. According to court documents, Elder recruited Johnson, Poe and an unknown accomplice to help him and Walker rob the store on Pioneer Parkway.
Elder and Walker drove the group to a Wal-Mart in Grand Prairie before the hold-up, where they purchased a duffel bag and an “air gun” to use in the robbery.
Johnson and Walker scouted the store first, and Elder instructed Poe and the unknown suspect to rob the store as he and Walker stayed behind in a getaway car.
