Murder suspect accused of targeting Muslims at Dallas tire shop jailed again, released again Naheed Rajwani
A murder suspect released from the Dallas County Jail last month after posting bond was arrested less than a month later for breaking vases at a Rockwall office building, court records say.
Local Muslims, whom the man is accused of having a bias against, say his recent arrest proves he should not have been released at all.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations plans to hold a news conference this afternoon to talk about its concerns about Anthony Paz Torres’ release from jail after the Dec. 24 shooting. Since his latest arrest last week, he was also released from the Rockwall County Jail.
Torres, 31, is accused of shooting up a Pleasant Grove tire shop on Christmas Eve while yelling “Muslim.” A non-Muslim tattoo artist was killed, and a Middle Eastern man was critically wounded.
Torres told officers who arrested him that he had a bias against Muslims. Police held a news conference on Jan. 8 to say they were investigating the shooting as a “crime of bias” and planned to file additional charges against Torres.
Court records, however, show he was released four days later after posting bond. His bail amount was set at $100,000.
