New jail puts Ethan Couch in closer contact with fellow inmates, has fewer restrictions Naheed Rajwani

Ethan Couch was moved from Tarrant County’s maximum security jail to a less restrictive facility this morning.

The move followed a judge’s order last week that Couch will spend two years in jail as a condition of his probation for killing four people in a DWI crash in 2013.

Couch has been in custody since December. He was arrested after missing a check-in with his probation officer last year and fleeing to Mexico with his mother, who is now charged with hindering apprehension.

Couch is considered a high-profile inmate, which means jail staff have had to take his safety into consideration for his housing arrangement, Sheriff Dee Anderson has said.

“We’re protecting him from any harm from any other inmate, and he understands that,” Anderson said Tuesday.
