Dallas-area girls attend self-defense class to stay an uppercut above predators Matt Peterson
Staff writer Bridget Graf reports:
Fighting like a girl might be an insult to some, but both of self-defense instructor Scott Robertson’s girls are black belts.
“They’ve been hit and kicked in training,” Robertson said. “It’s not going to scare them. They know what to do.”
Robertson was among those instructing other daughters fight and flight techniques at Predator Protection Program training last month at the White Rock YMCA.
Girls ages 7 to 17 learned how to assess, avoid and escape from dangerous situations. They also learned to trust their instincts and speak to grown-ups who make them uncomfortable.
“It made me feel extra strong in case a stranger comes up,” said 9-year-old Celeste Hammer, who was excited to practice her favorite techniques at home.
