Waxahachie mom: Son with special needs spent night in lockup without her knowledge Matt Peterson
Staff writer Eline de Bruijn reports:
A Waxahachie mother says her 10-year-old son was taken into police custody last week without her knowledge and held overnight after the special-needs student assaulted a teacher.
Ryann Jabre said on Facebook that her son Tristan was held on “three counts of felony assault” after the Jan. 26 confrontation at Dunaway Elementary School.
Police did not return calls for comment on the case, and district officials said only that “based on their observations [police] made the decision to take a student into custody.”
A disciplinary report, posted online by Jabre, said Tristan “punched and kicked the teacher and security officer.” It said he also “bit [and] head-butted security officer and kicked the teacher.”
“That was wrong and I have told him that you don’t hit people, you don’t kick people, you don’t bite, that is not OK,” Jabre told KDFW-TV (Fox 4).
