Police say two thieves chose poorly Tuesday when they tried to take an unmarked police car idling in the driveway of a Haltom City home.

A police detective was in the car warming it up outside his home on River Ridge Drive about 5:15 a.m. when one of the suspects opened the door. Police say the detective tried to arrest the man, but he ran away and remains at large.
