Staff writer Eline de Bruijn reports:

A Dallas man nearly beaten to death two years in a savage mugging during a pizza run to Campisi’s restaurant died last week, his family says.

Luis Alfredo Rocha Sr., 72, passed away Friday after a bout with pneumonia. Services are scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Sparkman Funeral Home in Richardson.

Rocha was still recovering from the scarring and internal injuries he suffered in the January 2014 beating outside the Mockingbird Lane restaurant and could not overcome the respiratory infection, his family said.

“He left us too early,” his cousin Gloria Torres said Wednesday. “When he talked about the beating, he would say ‘All I wanted was a pizza.’”

No arrests have been reported in what police initially described as a robbery — though none of Rocha’s belongings were taken. A $10,000 reward was offered for information in the case.
