‘Fit of rage’ while gaming may have led dad to suffocate toddler, police say Tom Steele
A Watauga man has been charged with capital murder in the December death of his 2-year-old daughter.
Anthony Michael Sanders, 31, was arrested April 15, a day after the Tarrant County medical examiner ruled that the death of Ellie Sanders was a homicide due to asphyxiation. He is being held at the North Richland Hills jail in lieu of $1 million bail, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reports.
On the night Dec. 12, emergency responders were called to Sanders’ home in the 6600 block of Fair Meadows Drive, near Rufe Snow Drive.
Ellie Sanders, 2, was not breathing and was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m., the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Anthony Sanders had been watching Ellie and his 5-year-old son that day while his wife was at an art show, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit.
A short time after the mother came home, the 5-year-old attempted to rouse his sister, who was in her parents’ bedroom.
“He tried to wake her up and she wouldn’t wake up. He went in there and told [his parents] that she was sleeping and wouldn’t wake up,” Sgt. Jason Babcock told the Star-Telegram.
