Dallas officer bitten by schizophrenic who threatened to kill his family, police say Naheed Rajwani
A schizophrenic man bit a Dallas police officer after threatening to kill his own family late Tuesday, police said.
About 10 p.m., five police officers, including a sergeant, were sent to a house in the 400 block of Santa Gertrudis Drive to respond to a report of a man threatening to harm people inside.
Darrell Bell’s sister told police he’s bipolar and schizophrenic and is known to use methamphetamine.
But he was off his medication Tuesday night, when he started walking around the house in southeast Oak Cliff and said he would kill everyone inside, according to his arrest affidavit.
The 34-year-old “became very irritated and hostile” when the officers walked into his room to interview him, cursing at them and threatening to fight them, his arrest affidavit stated.
As officers grabbed his arms and legs to handcuff him, Bell sunk his teeth into an officer’s arm and continued biting until the officer started bleeding, the affidavit stated.
