Dallas officer beaten by 3 British sailors drops the charges, ‘stunning’ his chief Robert Wilonsky

A Dallas police officer dropped criminal charges against three British sailors accused of assaulting him last month in a brawl outside a Cedar Springs club.

Last week, Dallas Police Chief David Brown said it was “hard to accept” that a grand jury decided not to indict the British Royal Navy sailors accused of beating up Senior Cpl. Gerardo Huante on Feb. 13.

Brown said he intended to find out what happened, and now he has his answer: Huante decided to drop the felony charges of assaulting a public servant.

“Stunning is the only word I can come up with,” Brown said Tuesday. “We’ve never experienced this from an officer who reported a crime like this. No one can remember that ever being done. We’re all stunned.”

Huante signed an affidavit that said he did not “wish to participate in the prosecution” of Christopher Casey, Christopher Hickman and Callum Duncan. That affidavit was signed on March 4, five days before the grand jury heard the case and decided to no-bill the sailors.
