Third downtown K2 arrest made as Dallas police continue ‘ongoing narcotic investigation’ Robert Wilonsky

A third man has been arrested in connection with the sale of K2 in downtown Dallas.

On Friday morning, Dallas Police Deputy Chief Vernon Hale tweeted, “#Breaking Another #K2Dealer arrested Downtown!” He added, “We will come for you,” but provided no further details.

The department said none would be forthcoming, at least not immediately.

“The arrest was a part of an ongoing narcotic investigation,” said Senior Cpl. Monica Cordova, a department spokesperson, via email. “We hope to continue to identify and arrest those in possession of the drug and those who continue to sell this dangerous drug.”

Hale announced two arrests at a press conference Wednesday, and said more were expected. He also said that police have been working with Dallas Area Rapid Transit and El Centro officers to identify dealers who appear to be targeting the young and the homeless in downtown.

As we reported last week, Dallas police officers and paramedics have been dealing with a sharp uptick in K2-related calls coming from downtown There have been more than 200 since early December alone involving the dangerous, chemically altered herb-and-spice mixture that’s smoked like marijuana.

Concerns about crime in downtown — including the carjacking of Sarah Hoff in the Davis Building and aggressive panhandlers from Deep Ellum to the West End — led to a packed house at The Woolworth Monday night, where downtown residents demanded Dallas and DART police, city council members and Downtown Dallas Inc. step up security in a part of town now packed with people.

In a statement sent to downtown residents Friday morning, Downtown Dallas Inc. President and CEO John Crawford said Monday’s meeting was but the first of several sessions to come.

“Residential growth is the key to Downtown’s future,” says the statement, which you can read below in its four-page entirety. “Just 20 years ago, there were 200 people living Downtown. Now, there are over 9,000 residents living in the core and over 45,000 living within 2.5 miles. Downtown residents are the talent pool corporations are chasing. Residents are birthing new businesses and giving life to our streets. We must protect this growth by first and foremost protecting the safety of our citizens.” … [visit site to read more]
