Two men from the Dallas area are among 17 people arrested in a federal investigation into a drug and money-laundering conspiracy in Dallas and Laredo.
The suspects, charged in a Feb. 3 indictment that was partially unsealed Wednesday, are accused of taking part in the conspiracy from about June 2011 to June 2013, according to a press release from the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of Texas.
They are charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and possession with intent to distribute marijuana, plus conspiracy to launder drug proceeds. Authorities say drugs from Mexico were moved in South Texas, then taken to the Dallas area for sale. The cash was returned to Laredo and Mexico.
“Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our communities,” said Joseph M. Arabit, DEA’s special agent in charge. “[We] will continue to coordinate and work closely together and pursue those individuals who jeopardize our neighborhoods through their smuggling and distribution of illegal and dangerous drugs.”
Arturo Lozano, 47, of Grand Prairie and Leocadio Ruiz, 47, of Cedar Hill were arrested in the Dallas area and will be taken to Laredo in the near future.
