An Austin federal grand jury has indicted a woman for lying to federal officials in conjunction with John Wiley Price’s public-corruption investigation.

According to the two-count indictment, which is below, 58-year-old Helen Tantillo works for what’s known only as “Business B” in the Dallas County commissioner’s 11-count federal indictment. As we’ve previously reported, Business B is actually BearingPoint, where Tantillo served as managing director from 2005 until May 2009, when BearingPoint filed for bankruptcy. Until today, Tantillo was known only as “H.T.”

During Tantillo’s tenure at BearingPoint, the company bid on several Dallas County contracts — the first in 2004, when it sought a multimillion-dollar deal to digitize county records. According to the original Price indictment and the documents made public today, BearingPoint worked with two of Price’s associates — his longtime campaign manager and consultant, Kathy Nealy, and consultant Christian Campbell — to secure the bid. BearingPoint negotiated a price with Nealy, at one point offering her $50,000, and hired Campbell to “leverage established relationships at Dallas County.” He was to receive $5,000 a month, and another $25,000 if it secured the bid.

Nealy and Campbell have also been indicted.

It worked out well for BearingPoint, according to the feds: After the county’s selection committee voted to throw out BearingPoint’s proposal, “on Price’s motion, the Commissioners Court voted to keep Business B in the selection process.” The feds say thousands of dollars changed hands, and that much of landed in Price’s pockets as BearingPoint landed the deal.

According to the new indictment, Tantillo spoke with FBI special agents several times in Dallas, beginning in August 2013. She was asked specifically about an increase in payments made to Christian Campbell, which, according to the indictment, she said was a “charitable donation to a favorite charity of another Dallas County Commissioner.” Says the indictment, that’s not true: “As Helen Tantillo then and there knew, the increase in Christian Campbell’s monthly payment was at least in part in order to pay Kathy Nealy,” who then handed over some of that money to Price, according to last summer’s indictment.

She also told agents that someone named “G.M.” told her it was a charitable donation. G.M. — referred to only as “a person known to the Grand Jury” — said no such thing, according to the indictment.

If convicted, Tantillo is facing five years in federal prison and a $250,00 fine for each count. … [visit site to read more]
