A Fort Worth police officer accused — and later cleared — of stealing Air Jordans and a copy of Grand Theft Auto during a raid on a drug house in October 2013 has sued the city and its former police chief in federal court. Among the allegations made by Antoine Williams: “race discrimination, harassment, hostile work environment, and retaliation.”

Williams, who was initially charged with the theft in October 2013, is no longer on the force. He was fired in May 2014, after a grand jury indicted him for swiping the sneakers and video game. He was eventually found not guilty. As the Star-Telegram notes, Williams is still fighting to get his job back.

Williams’ suit joins others filed in recent months by black officers alleging racial discrimination in the department under former Police Chief Jeffrey Halstead, who stepped down at the beginning of the year. The lawsuits are piling up following the release of the Coleman Report last August, which said it couldn’t find evidence of racial discrimination in the department but could “identify situations where supervisors and leaders in the Fort Worth Police Department’s Chain of Command had reason to know about behaviors and actions that were central to the complaint, and they failed to take action that would stop the harassing behavior and correct the course of events.”

Williams says in his suit, which you can read below, that during the raid in October 2013 he did indeed take the shoes — because he thought they’d look good while he was working undercover. He says his lieutenant gave him to OK” “Hell yeah, take all of that s***, he’s a drug dealer.” Williams says he took the shoes home, his wife found them and moved them to the bedroom, and eventually he “forgot to grab the boxes of shoes to bring to work.” (Otherwise known as.)

As a result, he was fired, “charged with a criminal offense which he was found not guilty of and Plaintiff’s information was leaked to the media who in turn plastered Plaintiff’s home address and picture all over the news,” says the suit. “Keeping in mind that for years, Plaintiff was an undercover officer, his safety as well as the safety of his family was really placed in jeopardy for Defendant.”

We’ve asked Fort Worth officials for comment, but given that the suit was filed only yesterday, it’s not likely they have seen it. We will update if they respond.

Until then the suit is below. … [visit site to read more]
