Snider Plaza purse snatcher held knife to 7-year-old’s throat, Dallas mom says Claire Ballor
What started as a routine gas stop turned into a terrifying ordeal for a Dallas mother and her children.
Emily Smith stepped out of her car on Jan. 29 at the Snider Plaza Shell station to return the gas nozzle when a woman with a knife tried to steal her purse, KTVT-TV (CBS11) reports.
The robber, whom police identified as 26-year-old Brittany Giles, entered the passenger door while Smith’s back was turned, held a knife to her 7-year-old son’s throat and demanded Smith’s purse.
“The gas station attendant started yelling, ‘Hey! Hey!’ ” Smith recalled. “Then I hear someone scream, ‘You’re getting robbed!’ ”
Smith saw her 4-year-old daughter safe in the backseat and rushed to her son who had slipped into the front seat to play with the radio.
“The only thing I saw was him shaking,” she said. “All he could say was ‘Knife. Knife. Knife at my throat. I’m sorry, Mommy. I’m so sorry. She took your purse. I didn’t know what else to do.’ ”
